Prof. Garland was a Roy D. and Margaret B. Wooster Professor of the Classics at Colgate University. He got my Ph.D. in Ancient History from University College London.
He’s studied drama, became a gardener, and taught English and drama to secondary school students and lectured at universities throughout Britain and at the British School of Archaeology in Athens.
His research focuses on the social, religious, political, and cultural history of both Greece and Rome. I've 16 written books, which have been translated into many languages.
He has recorded five courses for the Great Courses, including The Other Side of History: Daily Life in the Ancient World; Athenian Democracy, and The Greek World: A Study of History and Culture.
He has given up academics to do art. That's why he retired a year ago..
